THE BUILDING “AlhóndigaBilbao is going to revolutionise the human energy that moves this city” Philippe Starck, author of the project: Alhóndiga Bilbao comes alive as the result of the work of the reputed French industrial designer. It is a completely open space for the creation of ideas, movement and tendencies; an exceptional space for citizens to create the necessary energy for the artistic-cultural growth of our city. The new Alhondiga is located on the framework of the former wine cellar that Ricardo Bastida designed in 1909 to revitalise the Albia area. The young architect created a great industrial building, both functional and pioneer for its time. Its foundations bear witness to an eternity that Philippe Starck now turns into a space which is intended to be the neurological centre of Bilbao culture. An ambitious challenge which Starck fulfils thanks to simple interior design yet full of surprises; architectural metaphors that will surprise professionals and amateurs in the field alike and which has suceded in breaking, once and for all, the failed remodelling projects for a building that was declared a Cultural Monument Site in 1998. INSIDE ALHÓNDIGA BILBAO Those who cross the AlhóndigaBilbao ‘s threshold will be received by the “Gran Plaza Central”, an area of 6,193 m2 surrounded by a colonnade with 43 pillars with the task of supporting the internal buildings in the shape of a cube. These three themed buildings (knowledge, well-being and leisure) make up a multi-purpose area of almost 40,000 square metres, each divided into three floors. The basements are accessed from this meeting point, to reach the leisure area, cinemas, exhibition hall and the theatre and an auditorium for 400 spectators. To round it off, the visitor can go up to the magnificent “Sun Terrace”, where the Alhóndiga’s urban spa is located,. This will be the admiration of visitors entering from downstairs, thanks to the transparent bottom of its swimming pools. An enormous projection screen hangs in the centre of the Alhóndiga universe, where young artists will be able to display their creations sharing space with an enormous virtual sun, a star that will illuminate the interior and provide the energy and heat required for the perfect genesis of the Starck project. THE THREE CUBES Media Library (3,800 m2 surface area, 3 floors). A ‘new’ concept of libraries understood as the fabric of social space. A meeting point for cultural tendencies in which it is possible to enjoy audiovisual presentations, attend training workshops, listen to music or simply have fun, as well as making bibliographic consultations. Physical Education Building (2676 m2 surface area, 2 floors with a double height). This is an ideal space for relaxation, health and physical development. The corridor to the upper swimming pools and changing rooms leads off from here . The gym has the most modern equipment and is flanked by perimeter monitors with live broadcasts for the enjoyment of users, who will be able to exercise whilst watching their favourite TV programme. Complementary Activities Building (3.800 m2 surface area, 3 floors). The first two floors of this building are for public use, whilst the third floor is solely for facilities. The Higher Centre for Stage Arts of the Basque Country will be housed h ere , which shares space with the leisure area, led by the Yandiola restaurant-buffet and the Alhóndiga shop, where an important selection of objects designed by Philippe Starck can be found. |
EL EDIFICIO “Alhóndiga Bilbao va a revolucionar la energía humana que mueve a esta ciudad” Philippe Starck, autor del proyecto: Alhóndiga Bilbao cobra vida como resultado de la labor del reputado diseñador industrial francés. Es un espacio completamente abierto para la creación de ideas, movimientos y tendencias; un espacio excepcional para los ciudadanos para crear la energía necesaria para el crecimiento artístico-cultural de nuestra ciudad. La nueva Alhóndiga se encuentra en el marco de la antigua bodega que Ricardo Bastida diseñada en 1909 para revitalizar la zona de Albia. El joven arquitecto ha creado un gran edificio industrial, tanto funcional como pionero a un mismo tiempo. Un reto ambicioso que Starck cumple gracias al diseño interior simple, pero llena de sorpresas; metáforas arquitectónicas que sorprenderá a los profesionales y aficionados por igual en el campo y que viene a suceder para romper de una vez por todas, los fallidos proyectos de remodelación de un edificio que fue declarado Monumento Cultural en 1998. DENTRO DE BILBAO Alhóndiga Quién cruce las puertas de Alhóndiga Bilbao será recibido por la Gran Plaza Central “, un área de 6.193 m2, rodeada por una columnata con 43 columnas con la tarea de apoyar a los edificios interiores en forma de un cubo. Estos tres edificios temáticos (conocimiento, el bienestar y el ocio) constituyen un espacio polivalente de casi 40.000 metros cuadrados, cada uno dividido en tres plantas. A los sótanos se accede desde este punto de encuentro, para llegar a la zona de ocio, cines, sala de exposiciones y el teatro y un auditorio para 400 espectadores. Para redondear si fuera poco, el visitante puede subir a la magnífica terraza “Sol”, donde se encuentra el spa urbano de la Alhóndiga. Ésta será la admiración de los visitantes que entran en el piso de abajo, gracias al fondo transparente de las piscinas. Una enorme pantalla de proyección se cuelga en el centro del universo Alhóndiga, donde los jóvenes artistas podrán mostrar sus creaciones compartiendo espacio con un sol enorme virtual, una estrella que iluminará el interior y proporcionar la energía y el calor necesario para la génesis perfecta de el proyecto de Starck. Los tres cubos Mediateca (Área de 3.800 m2 de superficie, 3 plantas). Un “nuevo” concepto de biblioteca entendida como el tejido del espacio social. Un punto de encuentro de tendencias culturales en las que se puede disfrutar de presentaciones audiovisuales, asistir a talleres de capacitación, escuchar música o simplemente divertirse, así como hacer consultas bibliográficas. Edificio de Educación Física (2676 m2 de superficie, 2 plantas con una doble altura). Este es un espacio ideal para la relajación, la salud y desarrollo físico. El corredor de las piscinas y vestuarios superior conduce fuera de allí. El gimnasio cuenta con el equipamiento más moderno y está flanqueado por los monitores de perímetro con transmisiones en vivo para el disfrute de los usuarios, que podrán ejercer mientras ve su programa de televisión favorito. Edificio de Actividades Complementarias (3.800 m2 de superficie, 3 plantas). Las dos primeras plantas de este edificio son de uso público, mientras que el tercer piso es el único para las instalaciones. El Centro Superior de Artes Escénicas del País Vasco se alojarán aquí, que comparte espacio con la zona de ocio, dirigidos por el restaurante-buffet Yandiola y la tienda de Alhóndiga, donde puede ser una importante selección de objetos diseñados por Philippe Starck. |
